24 Hours in Oxford

Oxford is most known for its University, being ranked the 6th best educational institution in the entire world is no mean feat. Oxford is a vibrant city bustling with the voices of bright students, independent boutiques and quaint shopping streets. Here's how to spend 24 hours in Oxford.

We headed into Oxford quite early (after a caffine stop first) as it was about 1 hour 30 min from Nottingham, when we arrived it was already busy and we ended up queing for several different parking spots for about an hour. After we eventually found one more on the outskirts we headed over to the river which was about a 20 minute walk.

We hired a rowing boat at the Magdeline Bridge, which was really busy. We were directed to a boat pretty quickly however, it was £30 for the first hour and then you were charged every 15 minutes over that hour. You are asked to leave your ID with them as security for the boat, once we were all in we were off.

I would love to say that I really enjoyed it, however Hugo made that rather difficult. He kept moving about and rocking the boat which was making me panic. Plus he also kept trying to jump in the water, chase the ducks and visit other boats. Graham did the majority of the rowing which was probably a good thing as when i tried i lasted 5 minutes before going in circles and getting us stuck haha!

After we took the boat back, we went for lunch and for a bubble tea for me.

Then we used our Treasure Trails Map to get us around the city and see some of the sights, these maps are brilliant as it gives you the landmarks and then you have to find things on each of the buildings and tick them off. The kids loved searching the buildings and it was also a brilliant way to see a lot of the city.

We stopped off for ice cream of course before taking a leasuirly stoll back to the car and heading to our camping spot for the night.

We stayed at a Bell Tent at Valley Farm and it was beautiful, we had a proper bed and the kids had z beds. The tent had loads of room to play in and it was so quiet.

We had BBQ for tea and then got the fire going for some smores which everyone loved!
