Nottingham was the first stop on our Road Trip, a mere 1hr 50min drive from Manchester so it made perfect sense to stop here first. We stayed at Hill Valley Caravan & Camping Park just outside Nottingham in Barrow upon Trent in one of their Plus Camping Pods.
Accommodation:
There was a minimum 2 night stay here which is why we drove up on the Friday night after work, the pod came with a Hot Tub for our own use which was amazing as the kids had never been in a hot tub before. The scenery was beautiful, the pod came with 2 single beds and 2 camp beds for the kids. You have to provide your own bedding but this was no trouble at all, there was a BBQ there to use and decking with a picnic table.
We headed straight to bed so that we could be ready for our first day of holiday!
Morning:
We packed some breakfast stuff to save some money and also both our kids are always up early and starving so it was miles easier! Then we headed to Sherwood Pines to complete the Superworm Trail, the activity booklet cost £3.50 per pack and included a mask, an activity booklet, some stickers and some crayons.
You follow the trail around and complete the rubbings at each station and answer the questions, the kids really loved it and it was a good 45/60 min walk around.
After we finished the trail we decided to get lunch at the cafe on site, the portions were really generous and the chips were gigantic! I went for a fish finger butty, Seb had 1/2 a jacket potato, Graham a bacon butty and Alice had one of the kid’s boxes (which have a sandwich, crisps, drinks & snack)
After we had finished lunch we headed for the playground, there are also options for Go Ape and Tree Top Nets that the kids can do but in all honesty these were pretty expensive for what they were, the nets was £22 per person and as Seb was under 6 a parent had to be with him which means we would have had to pay for one of us to go on with him despite him being more than capable.
There is also some Gruffalo sculptures within Sherwood Pines, we headed round to have a look at these before heading back to our camping pod for the evening. We stopped off at the local Aldi for some BBQ food to cook up and also a bottle of gin for the foraged blackberries i had found.
When we got back we headed for the damson and apple trees that were on the site and picked some, I used some to put into the gin and some went into parcels for after tea! We put the BBQ on and set the fire going for the hot tub, then after filling our bellies the kids got in the hot tub and loved it! (they now want one) after a few hours of playing the kids got ready for bed and me and Graham tried the hot tub for an hour of peace as the sun was setting!
Perfect end to a lovely day! You can check out my video of our stay here
