24 Hours in Somerset

We had 1 main destination in mind for when we stopped over in Somerset and that was Wookey Hole, we have heard amazing things about it and became a must see for us this trip.

As dogs aren’t allowed in Wookey Hole, Graham decided that he and Hugo deserved a rest so they parked up under some trees and next to a stream and just chilled while we explored the caves.

You need to purchase the tickets in advance to visit, I used my Clubcard vouchers to redeem against the cost which meant that for me and the kids it was only £12.75 instead of the usual £55 odd. We were greeted by a wizard who explained where everything was on the site, once we had got in we headed up to the caves.

The caves were really interesting, they have guides throughout to give you information about the caves and also any assistance you might need. There are a number of steps within the caves, low ceilings and it can be slippery. It is kept about 11 degrees which was a welcome change from the heat outside but I would imagine in the colder months, it gets really cold.

While we were in the caves we saw a room where they keep cheese! Yes you read that right....cave cheese! They keep the cheese in here for a year to develop in flavour and then it’s sold, you could purchase some in the shop.

When we exited the caves we were in the fairy glen, a world full of little statues and beautiful scenery.

Just after this is the dinosaur valley, there are giant sculptures of dinosaurs and prehistoric facts. Seb loved this bit in fact any dinosaur fan would do, we had a go at excavating some fossils too.

There is also a 4D cinema that you can go in, we decided against it as didn’t fancy queuing in the heat but it seemed really popular.

Then we headed inside to see the cave diving museum and watched a little film all about it.

Inside there was an old pier type games arcade with loads of old games, you could change money into old pennies to play and there were some fortune type ones too.

We then went through the mirror maze, which was really trippy but funny with the amount of times we walked into the walls!

We then went to get some food in the restaurant which was made to look like a circus tent!

Finally we headed for the mini golf which is included in your ticket price, 9 holes and it was really fun!

We picked up some ice cream on the way out for Graham and then headed to our stop for the night to unload before heading to a local pub for food which had loads of games to play while you were waiting so we taught the kids dominos!
